Imua!

We learned yesterday that our daughter was accepted at Kamehameha Schools for kindergarten in the fall.

This is huge. There are only two kindergarten classes at the Big Island campus, so they only take 20 girls and 20 boys. The application process, therefore, is very competitive and admission is far from a sure thing.

I know there are a lot more than 40 smart, talented kids on this island and I feel for every one of them whose families really wanted this opportunity for them. I wish the school could take them all.

It was a long and arduous application process, one that went on for many months and was very, very involved (and more than a little stressful). What a huge relief that she was accepted! By all accounts, this is a school that has so much to offer. We are so happy she will have this opportunity.

My great-grandmother graduated from Kamehameha School for Girls (Class of 1905), and her daughter, my grandmother, in the Class of 1928. They were both wonderful, smart, talented women.

The women in our family will represent the Kamehameha Schools classes of 1905, 1928 and 2022! What a span.

We were away from Kamehameha for a couple generations there (when my dad was starting school here, Pearl Harbor happened and then the war broke out; and when I was a kid, we lived in California) — but I’m so glad to be picking up the thread again and continuing the tradition of this excellent education.

We are thrilled she will have this incredible opportunity and education. Thank you, Kamehameha!

My mom went to Punahou… She is stoked that my son got into Kamehameha.

There is no way I would have moved islands or had the money for my son to attend Punahou.

I too am very grateful my son got accepted.

    Congrats to our bright kids!

Yes, congratulations to both of our sweet kids!

Damon, I think you and I are going to know each other for a good long time now. At least until 2022. Good thing we’re already friends!

Well I hope to know all the FBI Bloggers for a good long time… but I have the feeling the three of us (Macario) will be blogging about a few of the same events in the future… Which is a good thing!

See yah on the 9th (finally read the letter).

Thank you, Ms. Evelyn! We are very excited about her next chapter of schooling. Your preschool has been wonderful and she has been so happy there. She tells me you are her favorite person there. When I asked why once, she said, “Because she’s fun.” Upon further questioning, it turns out that you make funny faces and that’s a big hit! Thank you for taking such good care of our girl and giving her a safe, comfortable and happy place to spend her preschool years.
